Arjun Sham


Dr. Arjun Sham, a plant researcher works in the field of understanding plant-pathogen interaction in terms of genetic and molecular approaches. He holds a Doctoral degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology in 2020 from United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), Al Ain, UAE; Master of Science degree in Bioinformatics in 2010 from Bharathiar University, India, and a Bachelor of Science degree with a specialization in Biotechnology in 2007 from Mahatma Gandhi University, India. Dr. Arjun Sham is currently working as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Department of Biology, UAEU. He joined UAEU in 2011 as a Research Assistant in Aridland Agriculture Department and then joined the Biology Department as a Research Assistant in 2012. Later, he was promoted as a Research Associate in 2017, followed by joining as a Postdoctoral Fellow in 2020

Most research interests for a scientist

His expertise includes: -expression profiling/gene expression study and identification of complex regulatory networks of plants in response to biotic/abiotic stresses, -Enhancing the salinity tolerance of plants using endophytic actinobacteria residing in UAE. His major field of research experience constitutes: -the study of genetic control of Botrytis cinerea, a fungal pathogen, -Identification, characterization, and control (chemical and biological) of other fungal pathogen Thielaviopsis punctulata. In addition, he played a key role in several projects which includes the identification of other fungal pathogens like Neoscytalidium dimidiatum and Lasiodiplodia theobromae. His other expertise includes Microarray data analysis, RNASeq, Plant disease assay, Biocontrol assay etc. He was awarded ‘Best Young Researcher Award’ in 2nd International Academic & Research Excellence Award 2020 organized by GISR. He has published 17 research articles and possess a score of 11 h-index points and over 450 citations.
